On April 13, 2025, Western New Mexico University experienced a cybersecurity incident that disrupted the availability of certain web-based programs throughout the university system. In response, the university promptly secured and isolated critical IT systems, commenced an investigation and notified law enforcement.
The university staff, including the IT Department and community partners, have been diligently working to restore all of the impacted university systems as quickly and safely as possible.
The university is still investigating this incident. If the investigation determines that personal information was involved, impacted individuals will be notified in accordance with applicable laws.
While there is no definitive timeline on when the WNMU website will be back up, the university has established a temporary website with a list of important resources that can be found at www.wnmu.edu.
Desktops should not be used until a member of the IT Department has verified your machine is safe and placed a Quality Control sticker on the computer. Laptops that have been given a verbal “Okay to use” by the IT Department may continue to be used. Additional security software will be installed following the desktop process.
VPN access will not be available until a later date and will require new setup for each user. A request form will be provided to campus at a later date.
Public Wi-Fi is available through WNMUPublicWIFI. University employees may access MustangNet by using login credentials provided by a supervisor.
Online payment is now available through your Mustang Express account payment portal. WNMU is providing a grace period for payments, and late fees have been delayed for now. Questions regarding student accounts and payments may be sent to busaf@wnmu.edu.
No, access to digital textbooks has been maintained, however, if you find that you are unable to access a book, please reach out to the University Bookstore Monday through Thursday 9am-5pm and Friday, 10am to 3pm. at 575-538-6381 or 0341mgr@follett.com.

Yes, class registration is currently open for the summer and fall terms. Students should review the course schedule then complete the request form.
Yes, students may book an appointment with an advisor by calling 575-538-6393.
Please email advising@wnmu.edu and provide your full name and contact information to help us route you correctly, and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
Payment plans as well as payments in full can be completed through your Mustang Express account payment portal. If you are anticipating financial aid and do not see a credit authorization, you should wait to establish a payment plan and reach out to the Financial Aid department directly.
Official transcripts may be ordered through https://www.parchment.com. It is recommended that when ordering an official transcript, students check “Hold for Grades” or “Hold for Degree” to ensure the official transcript included end-of-term final grades.
Please send a request to registrars@wnmu.edu. The request should be in a separate letter attached to the email and must include your name, W#, or the last four digits of your social security number, approximate dates of attendance, and date of birth. This letter must also include your signature.
Students may declare their major through the Declaration of Major form at this link.
Students may withdrawal from courses through the Semester Withdrawal Form at this link.
Deadlines for payment arrangements and disenrollment have been extended while working through these issues. Late payment plan enrollment will be allowed.
